Coaching FAQs

Are there any guarantees that your assistance will make a better product?

Are there any guarantees that your assistance will make a better product?

My job as your writing coach is to bring out your special voice so that you are able to tell a story that no one else can tell in quite the same way.

As an experienced writer and certified coach I am able to ask the questions you need to answer in order to move forward on your project, coach you through circumstances that might be preventing you from moving ahead and using my coaching techniques to “coach” your characters into more depth and richness.

All the results belong to you and you must take full responsibility for your own work. I am not responsible for the whims, vagaries of the publishing world, nor am I responsible for your project outcome.

What are the guarantees?

My commitment to move with you through your writing process, and complete candor regarding your development as a writer.

If I do not believe I am the coach you need or if more classes on the basic craft of writing would serve you better at this point in your writing life, - I will tell you so.

As a coach, I will hold the client accountable, coach specific issues such as writer’s block, character development, dialogue, visioning the book, clarification of message, etc. I will also explore with the client their life situation, fears, doubts or barriers to begin living their dream of and passion for writing their stories. It is my belief that my clients as unique, creative human beings already have their own answers

What if I send you a wonderful idea and it ends up in print before my work has been completed?

There are no “new” ideas.

There is no idea that has not already been written about in one form or another. Aristotle, Socrates, the Bible, and hundreds of years of written work have covered it all.

Although there are no “new” ideas, there are new voices.

It is my job as coach to help the client find his or her distinctive, personal voice and speak it via the written word.

If I gave thirty people a good idea and asked them to write about it, it would result thirty completely distinctive stories because each writer brings his her own experience, passion and voice to the work. The voice and message of the client are the client’s alone and, I believe, cannot be duplicated. For an example of this concept, please look at _____________(Chi Libris e-book).

Also as a writing teacher and professional writer of 70 books, I schedule books up to two years out and have a backlog of already developed ideas that could last me until 2020 and beyond, I have no need for ideas of others.

My code of ethics and integrity as a coach and a professional do not allow me to divulge any information the client gives me without express permission of the client. This is laid out in my coach-client contract.

If after reviewing my code of ethics and the coach-client constract, a client remains concerned about this, I would not coach them. I would not be comfortable and neither would the client. Mutual trust is paramount in the coaching relationship.

Should I be concerned about security with my intellectual property?

People often ask me if they need to “protect” their manuscripts from publishers. I encourage writers to send their manuscripts to proven, reputable publishers. It is the responsibility of the writer to research the veracity and reputation of the house to which they submit.
